Five days of gratitude: day five

E & L

Day five of five days of gratitude! Some may have wondered why I haven't been grateful for my darling husband yet this week... well, that's because I've been saving the best for last. In honor of his birthday weekend, here are three reasons I'm grateful every day for the man, the myth, my E! 1. I'm grateful for the things we share in common, like our love for each other and Zoe, our love for our home and neighborhood, our mutual strong commitment to getting back to a life focused around … [Read more...]

Five days of gratitude: day four

NatureGrrl 2014

Day four of five days of gratitude. Here's what I'm grateful for today: 1. Words. I love writing. I love reading. I love learning new words. I love using old words other people don't use much anymore. I love big words. I love small words that say a lot. I love mellifluous words. I love alliteration. I love a good rhyme. I love song lyrics. I love poetry. I am grateful for glorious, glorious words. 2. Travel. I adore all stages of travel - dreaming about it, planning it, getting ready for … [Read more...]

Five days of gratitude: day three

BFFs for life

Day three of five days of gratitude. Here's what I'm grateful for today... 1. My monthly Moms Movie Night Out. I looooove going to the movies and E hates it, so earlier this year I decided to take myself on a monthly movie date. Then I realized other moms probably have this same dilemma, so I opened it up to all my Facebook friends. And now a couple of us go each month! We're a small group so far but I expect it will grow. I am loving getting to see grown-up movies for once - and it's nice to … [Read more...]

Five days of gratitude: day two

Z & Autumn 2014

Day two of five days of gratitude... 1. Awesome sitters. Even though our families live out of state and we don't get to rely on the kindness of free babysitters (aka grandparents!), we have a terrific team of Zoe-sitters. Anytime E and I want or need a date night, we can almost always line someone fabulous up quickly - and best of all, Z loves her sitters and really enjoys spending time with them. We've come a long way from the little girl who never wanted her mommy and daddy out of her … [Read more...]

Five days of gratitude: day one

NeighborFriends2014

Have your Facebook feeds been taken over by the "five days of gratitude" meme? I've seen a few people do it, and I liked the thought behind it a lot. Then, I was nominated by my dear cousin Jo to post three things I'm grateful for each day for five days. I've decided to repeat the posts here for posterity, because I put a lot of time and thought into them so I want to keep them. Here goes with day one... 1. Our amazing neighborhood. We are surrounded by incredible people. With Zoe being an … [Read more...]

We have a magic toilet.

and a flashback to pottytraining!

Apology and disclaimer: Quite some time ago, the good PR folks from Kohler contacted me and asked if I'd like to try out some complimentary high-tech toiletry and then blog about it. I very enthusiastically said yes... but then it took me a long time to get my Chief Technical Officer to install it. And THEN life got too hectic (plus I was watching way too much TV) to blog. Bottom line, I owe those kind Kohler PR folks a huge apology for being so late on the draw. And, that said, the resulting … [Read more...]

Kill your TV habit

TV habit 2014

It's confession time: despite extra free time in the evenings, I haven't blogged much this month because I've rediscovered the TV habit and I've been binge-watching various series. First I devoured both seasons of Orange Is The New Black and now I am sprinting through all five seasons of Breaking Bad. The addiction has gotten bad enough that I've been suffering from sleep deprivation during the day, yet that still won't stop me from staying up late to watch one or two episodes at night. NOT … [Read more...]

Rainbow hair for kiddos

Pravana Purple 2014

Zoe has had some tremendous milestones this year - weaning, turning four, transitioning to her own bed in her own room across the hall from us, experiencing her first slumber party two floors away from us - that's all really big, cool stuff! She is not a kid who asks for a lot but this year we wanted to give her something special to celebrate some of these milestones, especially what we view as the biggest - transitioning from cosleeping to sleeping on her own. So, I offered to get her ears … [Read more...]

Our cosleeping transition timeline

Solo Sleeper 2014

For my own memory-keeping, as well as for the benefit of any new parents who are breastfeeding and cosleeping and wondering how to eventually transition from family bed to independent sleep, I am sharing our personal timeline here. We've reached some exciting milestones this year and transitioning our sweet girl into her own bed, in her own room, for solo bedtime, was our crowning jewel! I hope I'm not jinxing us by writing about it, but I want to capture all the details. March 2010 - we … [Read more...]

Summertime beach cravings

Beach Cravings

I miss the beach. Somehow, it's just not summer without a visit to the ocean - salt water, sand, seagulls, shells and waves. I'm a bit spoiled, having grown up on Long Island with the beach as my back yard. Of course I didn't truly appreciate it as a kid - I wanted a pool instead! But I sure did enjoy growing up with horseshoe crabs, minnows and mussels as neighbors. What a wonderful, natural playground it was. And now, as a mom, I wish I could give Zoe more frequent access to the beach. Zoe … [Read more...]
