Corresponding with Elves year-round

ElfMail from Emmalina and PixiNote!

Our family dove head-first into the world of Elf on the Shelf when our daughter was about four. Each year, her bond with Emmalina, her Elf, grows stronger; she's been known to cry real tears when Emmalina departs back to the North pole on Christmas. We received a special dispensation from Santa right from the start which allows Zoe to hold and hug her Elf. Maybe that's why she and Emmalina have grown so incredibly close? Emmalina has even made special arrangements to stay with us a few days … [Read more...]

A triumphant return to RNS!

Partner workouts at RNS!

I'm delighted to report that I'm back at 100% with my workouts at Rock N Shock and I feel great. it's almost like my knee surgery never happened! Actually, I've been working so hard this month that Master Breaker Danielle joked I should have surgery more often - she said she's never seen me work so hard! She asked me when I'm scheduling my next one. All joking aside, I was a bit anxious about going back to RNS and I am SO HAPPY that everything is going well, I'm back at full steam with my … [Read more...]

One month ago, we fell.

After the Fall

One month ago today, I slipped and fell down hard. I face-planted. I hurt my knees, bit my lip and bashed my head on the ground - it wasn't pretty. In addition to being unbelievably painful and scary in the moment, it was also really, really embarrassing and honestly somewhat traumatic. But until now, you haven't heard a word about it. I kept it to myself and didn't tell anyone outside of E and Z, who were with me when I fell. And now I feel silly that I didn't talk about it, and also a bit … [Read more...]

5 favorite things for spring

Spring favorites

Once upon a time, I used to blog on occasional Fridays about some of my favorite things. I fell out of the habit - but let's get back to it, pronto! I definitely have some fun spring-themed favorite things to tell you about. 1. Godiva beaded eggs. If you only think of Godiva for chocolate, you'd be right - and wrong. Each spring, Godiva comes out with an absolutely exquisite sequined egg. I've been collecting them for about six years. Each year the egg is different and they're all gorgeous. … [Read more...]

Get back in your body!

Body Positive in 2017

How much time do you spend in your body - really IN your body? Working out, running, doing yoga or doing something else physical that gets you out of your head and truly into your physical self? If you're a mom, my guess is that you don't spend too much time focused on your own body, because you're probably spending most of your time focused on other little bodies. I know this is true for me. I recently had to take six weeks off from working out due to knee surgery and recovery - after a … [Read more...]

Cleared to work out!

Rock N Shock, here I come!

Guess who has a big smile on her face and just got medically cleared to return to the gym? This girl!! Rock N Shock Fitness, here I come! It's been a long recovery from my knee surgery on 2/27. I mean it hasn't all been bad - there was a week at Beaches Turks and Caicos that was pretty amazing. More on that in its own post soon! But not all of it was fun - there was pain and stress and way too much eating bad stuff. I complained about it over on the RNS blog so I won't go into it too much … [Read more...]

Why we foster kittens

Our sweet 2016 foster kitties

Last summer, our family took on a special project as a way to give back, celebrate our love of animals and help make the world a better place. Between July and September 2016, we fostered a total of 12 kittens (including one sweet mama of six who was barely more than a kitten herself) from the Capital Area Humane Society and Humane Society of Delaware County. Fostering kittens and cats is an amazing experience - it involves a bit less work and time than fostering puppies and dogs, yet still … [Read more...]

PT is a miracle from heaven!

9 days out from knee surgery, thanks to PT!

Oh friends, I'm so happy to report I'm in a MUCH better place today than I was when I blogged last week! My knee pain is dramatically reduced thanks to my first physical therapy (PT) appointment on Friday. One week after surgery, I was feeling very discouraged and down - even regretting ever having the knee surgery at all - due to the intense pain I was feeling. My knee hurt constantly and still wouldn't "work" right, I had a severe limp/lurch and I was in almost nonstop discomfort and pain. … [Read more...]

Recovery from knee arthroscopy

Nurse Dani

I had my right knee "scoped" on Friday, February 24. It's been exactly one week as of today. I'm trying to keep my spirits up but recovery seems awfully s-l-o-w. The one bright spot has been amazing nursing care from our little rescue dog, Dani, who literally has not left my side since I came home from surgery! I'll go back to the doctor today to have my stitches removed and knee checked, and then I'll start physical therapy (PT) immediately afterward. I had this surgery to alleviate the knee … [Read more...]

All hail non-scale victories

Three months into my RNS journey. Feeling GREAT!

There are so many ways to measure success when one is on a fitness and health program. My ultimate goal is weight loss, so seeing smaller numbers on the scale is important. But, unfortunately that needle isn't easy to move now that I'm in my mid 40s! Fortunately, there are other goals and metrics that matter, too. In this post, I'll focus on non-scale victories or NSVs. For starters, I've lost 10 inches since joining Rock N Shock Fitness and starting this latest round of my fitness journey. TEN … [Read more...]
