Two classes in… I’m hooked!

my stats from my first two RNS classes

Friends, let me tell you about a gym so clean and pretty and full of bad@ss quotes that just walking into it makes you feel strong and empowered. Let me tell you about workouts so tough that just the first five minutes of "warm-up" leaves you gasping for breath and with muscles aching for a rest. The first FIVE minutes! And, let me tell you about a fitness facility so high-tech that thanks to wearable technology on my wrist, I can look up during my workout and see my stats on the big … [Read more...]

Workouts you’ll feel for days

What is your Why?!

This week, I set foot in the Rock N Shock Fitness gym to train with Master Breaker Danielle for the first time. This wasn't for an actual workout class, but rather my own personal, individual training session to try out for the classes. I was so excited to work out at RNS at last - but also nervous at the idea of a "try-out" or audition. Danielle devised the try-out system in order to know exactly where each client comes in, including their fitness level, ability and willingness to push … [Read more...]

How I got lucky at Chop5

Chop5 rocks!

I just stumbled into the brand new fast casual restaurant Chop 5 Salad Kitchen today on Polaris after my workout and had an amazing, delicious and healthy lunch. It was the perfect post-gym meal to keep that strong, energized feeling going. I am so glad to find this restaurant and can't wait to visit again. It is seriously the yum. But perhaps the best part about my fresh, healthy and delicious lunch is that Chop5 is not even officially open until tomorrow. I have been watching the place for … [Read more...]

Testing Day at Rock N Shock!

Testing Day at Rock N Shock Fitness!

Today I visited Rock N Shock Fitness for the second time. The first time was to tour the place, meet Master Breaker Danielle and her staff, and learn about the program. I couldn't wait to come back and get started! Today, I went back to RNS for my "before" pictures and all of my entry testing: the Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) assessment, hair pull for DNA/tolerance testing, and the hardest one: the VO2 Max test. I purposely didn't read up on these tests before going in because I didn't want … [Read more...]

My life is about to change

RockNShock post 1

Friends and longtime readers know that I've struggled with my weight, nutrition and fitness program for years. And when I say "struggled," what I really mean is that I love to work out and focus on fitness, but I'm never willing to stop eating carbs and sweets long enough to actually lose weight, get healthy and be fit. If we're being honest. Well, all that nonsense is about to change and my #Fitin2016 journey is about to get REAL up in here. I am thrilled to share that I've been selected by … [Read more...]

My April #fitin2016 update

me at Joshua Tree

This is my monthly update on my continuing mission to get super fit in 2016. It's been three months now of healthier eating habits, tracking my food intake on MyFitnessPal, aiming for 10K steps a day with FitBit and working out most days. I have completed more than 65 intense workouts this year. I've lost 4% of my body weight and still have far to go. I love the P90X3 program. I'm getting so strong! I took spring break off from working out formally but still tried for 10K steps each day and … [Read more...]

My March #fitin2016 update

Healthier lunch options

TL; dr version: this is an update on my continuing mission to get super fit in 2016. And now for anyone who cares to read the long version... Can't Stop, Won't Stop bitmoji

If you follow me on Instagram, you've seen my post-workout #Fitin2016 selfies all through January. Bottom line, this is the year I get back to fit. Now that I've stuck with it daily for one whole month, I'm ready to share it here. This January, I embarked on a journey of much healthier eating habits, tracking my food intake religiously on MyFitnessPal, aiming for 10K steps a day with FitBit and working out more days than not (at 5 am on weekdays). I conquered the rigorous #21dayfix workout … [Read more...]

Five days of gratitude: day one

NeighborFriends2014

Have your Facebook feeds been taken over by the "five days of gratitude" meme? I've seen a few people do it, and I liked the thought behind it a lot. Then, I was nominated by my dear cousin Jo to post three things I'm grateful for each day for five days. I've decided to repeat the posts here for posterity, because I put a lot of time and thought into them so I want to keep them. Here goes with day one... 1. Our amazing neighborhood. We are surrounded by incredible people. With Zoe being an … [Read more...]

Westerville’s Watering Hole

Watering Hole 2011 & 2013

The other afternoon, Zoe and I lazed in the pool, played on water slides and swam until we were both exhausted. Was I dreaming or having summer flashbacks? No - we escaped to an indoor water park for a blissful and fun getaway. The best part? It's just minutes from our house! I'm talking about the wonderful community resource known as the Westerville Community Center, and specifically the high quality, 96,000 sq. ft. indoor aquatic facility known as The Watering Hole.  For $7.50 per person … [Read more...]
