Friday favorites: Valentine edition

Friday Five 2-14-14

Welcome to my elusive, effervescent Friday Favorites series. If you like this post, check out the others that came before! I have been finding some very cool new stuff lately - so here are my latest fun finds. Hope you enjoy them as much as Zoe and I do! Not all of these are necessarily Valentine's day related, but some are - and all would be fun to share with your big or little Valentines. Cuppies. I am obsessed with cups and mugs that have little animals built into the bottom. Have … [Read more...]

A new freezer favorite: Mommade Foods

Mommade Foods

Disclaimer: I was generously provided samples from MomMade Foods prior to writing this post. That said, my opinions are my own and I happily spent my own money on MomMade Foods as well! Recently, Zoe and I got to attend a blogger event on behalf of Mommade Foods. We were able to meet mom and founder Heather Stouffer, learn all about her nutrition philosophy and best of all taste many of her delicious, healthy foods. Instantly, I was hooked! And that's a good thing, because I am ALWAYS on the … [Read more...]

Entertaining bigger kids for a week

Crazy 88s 2014

By now, I've gotten pretty good at the little kid thing - I know where to take Zoe to let some energy out and have a blast doing it. But right after Christmas this year, two of our nephews and one of our nieces came to stay with us for a week over their winter break. Suddenly, I had a house FULL of kids - Zoe plus a tween and two teens - so I knew I'd have to hit the Internets hard to come up with a plan to entertain them all. I put together an agenda for our week together that included fun … [Read more...]

Copy-Kids gets kids to eat veggies

Copy-Kids

Disclaimer: Thanks to Copy-Kids for sending me a review copy of their DVD and making this blog post possible. My daughter had fun eating broccoli tonight! That's priceless in my opinion - and the opinion is absolutely my own. I feel like I'm in the presence of a miracle. Okay, maybe that's a wee bit dramatic, but I really am in absolute awe of the Copy-Kids DVD that encourages kids to eat fruits and vegetables simply by showing them other fun, giggly children doing exactly that. It … [Read more...]

5 belated thankful things

Snails n Rooibos

This post is part of a blog series that started as my Friday Favorites and then morphed into "5 thankful things” this November. There's so much to be thankful for, especially when you take one look at the news and see how bad it can be out there. I try to maintain an "attitude of gratitude" year round and hope to cultivate that lifelong philosophy in Zoe as well. For now, here's last week's 5 thankful things: Zoe's good health. This is one of those things you almost feel superstitious … [Read more...]

My first 5 thankful things

2 of my 5 thankful things

I'm seeing a lot of bloggers focus on gratitude and appreciation this month, and it makes sense. Many of my Facebook friends are posting one thing each day to be thankful for. I've decided that each week in November, I'll be posting five things I'm thankful for. Since many of the things I'm thankful for are also my favorite things, I'm wrapping this into my long lost Friday Favorites series - and hopefully I'll keep it going strong even after the month is over. Since I didn't start on time … [Read more...]

The switch witch trick worked!

Halloween 2013

I've blogged before about how important it is to me that we raise Zoe with normal, healthy eating habits and no unnatural sugar cravings such as the ones I've been plagued with all my life. Before age two, I tried really hard to limit her sweets but for about the last year and a half, I've been a bit more relaxed about it. She loves chocolate and ice cream and gets them from time to time, but not ALL the time - and certainly not every day. For a couple of weeks now, I've been dreading the … [Read more...]

A kid in a candy store

See's Candies

Disclosure: this chocolate fantasy is brought to you by the sparkling new See's Candies at Easton Town Center, where I attended a VIP blogger event last night. Enjoy. I know I sure did. I had the most wonderful dream last night. In it, I dreamed that I welcomed a wonderful sitter, kissed a happy child goodbye and set off gloriously alone for my favorite chocolate shop where I was set loose to sample ANYTHING I liked, got to go behind the counter and fill a fancy box with as many chocolates as … [Read more...]

Have you hugged your farmers market today?

Farmers Markets 2013

I just found out that this week (August 4-10, 2013) is National Farmers Market Week. I can't think of a better reason to get out and enjoy one of my favorite things to do in summer - visit a farmer's market! Columbus is an absolute mecca for farmers markets. I love how they are all spread out on different days so you really could visit a new one each day if you wanted to. The Columbus Dispatch has a fantastic, interactive online database that enables you to find a farmers market by name, … [Read more...]

Just say no to yucky

Yummy Things 2013

People are often surprised to hear that I don't drink coffee. Then, their shock turns to true alarm when they find out that I don't drink alcohol, either. You can't imagine how rare it is to meet someone like me, who doesn't drink either of those two incredibly popular things. (The last time I met someone who didn't drink alcohol or coffee, I married him.) It's not for any complex, well thought out reason. It's actually pretty simple and juvenile. You know how when something tastes bad, … [Read more...]
