5 things I’m excited about in 2017

2017 focus areas

I try not to do the stereotypical "New Year's Resolution" thing, as so often those don't go anywhere. Instead, I always end a year by reflecting back on the highs and lows, documenting the things I want to remember, and setting a few focus areas or intentions for the new year. So, without further ado, here are 5 things I'm excited about in 2017! 1. My job. Yes, as a working mom I have multiple jobs - but I don't often talk about my 9 to 5 here. In fact, in some ways that job gets short shrift … [Read more...]

My RNS progress update

RNS Collage

It's January - new month, new year! So many people are starting health and fitness programs right now. There's a lot of muscle soreness going around. I'm personally very happy to be past that early phase of my program. I remember that soreness all too well - I ached everywhere! These days, after my Rock N Shock workout classes, I still get muscle soreness but not that overwhelming, all-over achiness and pain. I'm getting stronger and my body is responding well to the workouts. Now, I can even … [Read more...]

20% gym, 80% life

I'll look this great again in 2017!

My eating is holding me back. There, I said it. My workouts this year have been terrific. I did 21 Day Fix for a while with Autumn Calabrese and then P90X3 with Tony Horton. I switched over to running, rocked the Couch to 5K program and made some dear friends in the process. I have perfected the art of the early morning, pre-dawn, pre-work workout. I've kept myself feeling fitter and younger than I EVER would have without all these workouts. I have a lot to be proud of! But it wasn't … [Read more...]

Our little rescue dog, Dani

Our little rescue, Dani

Our family recently adopted a tiny rescue dog from Cause for Paws Ohio. Formerly known as Pistol Annie, our daughter renamed her Dani and she's adorable. Near as we can tell, Dani's a Shih tzu/Yorkie mix - aka Shizorkie. She has utterly stolen our hearts in a very short time! I was initially very against the idea of adding a second dog to our family. We all adore our Goldendoodle, Autumn, and consider her a near-perfect canine and cherished member of our family. I feared we had no chance of … [Read more...]

Joining club “side hustle”

let me be your Stella & Dot hook-up!

Last week, I heard an offer I couldn't refuse and signed on as a Stella & Dot independent stylist. I wasn't looking for another job - I already have two, thanks. I also wasn't necessarily looking for more money, although of course that is always nice to have. I'll be completely, totally honest: I did it for the goodies. I absolutely LOVE Stella & Dot jewelry, scarves and bags. I have been hooked on their quality, design and versatility ever since I first tried them - and being a … [Read more...]

Testing Day at Rock N Shock!

Testing Day at Rock N Shock Fitness!

Today I visited Rock N Shock Fitness for the second time. The first time was to tour the place, meet Master Breaker Danielle and her staff, and learn about the program. I couldn't wait to come back and get started! Today, I went back to RNS for my "before" pictures and all of my entry testing: the Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) assessment, hair pull for DNA/tolerance testing, and the hardest one: the VO2 Max test. I purposely didn't read up on these tests before going in because I didn't want … [Read more...]

My life is about to change

RockNShock post 1

Friends and longtime readers know that I've struggled with my weight, nutrition and fitness program for years. And when I say "struggled," what I really mean is that I love to work out and focus on fitness, but I'm never willing to stop eating carbs and sweets long enough to actually lose weight, get healthy and be fit. If we're being honest. Well, all that nonsense is about to change and my #Fitin2016 journey is about to get REAL up in here. I am thrilled to share that I've been selected by … [Read more...]

Our ear piercing adventure

Ear piercing 2016

If you had asked me a year ago when I planned to get Zoe's ears pierced, I would have likely said "When she asks... I'm in no hurry," or I may have joked that 35 seemed like a good age. As a kid, I had to wait interminably long - until I was 11 or 12 - and while I didn't think we'd wait that long with Zoe, I also never thought we'd do it as young as 5. But last month, that's exactly what we just did - a few weeks before her big 6th birthday so they'd be healed in time for her party. … [Read more...]
