Superhero Day at Easton

I have a new favorite family activity for the month of August to add to my family fun "best of" list at the end of the year: Superhero Day at Easton Town Center! Easton puts on some seriously cute events for families, and this one definitely did not disappoint. It was a gorgeous sunny day when we donned our capes and superhero masks and headed to Easton to do some errands and have some fun. I got a little shopping done, picked up a few things we needed and then we headed for Fenlon Square to … [Read more...]

Friday Favorites: best kids art supplies

It’s time for another installment in my on-again, off-again Friday Favorites series. If you like this post, be sure to check out the others that came before. My last couple of Friday Favorites were all about the moms, so here's one for the kids: our favorite arts and crafts supplies! These are must haves in our house. I can't wait to hear about some of yours. Watercolor pencils. And now for something completely different - a new medium for your young artists. Watercolor … [Read more...]

Day trip to an island paradise

If you're looking for a super fun, family-friendly day trip from Columbus this summer, look no farther than the easily accessible island getaway known as Kelleys Island, Ohio. For a long time, Lake Erie's shores and islands have been on our travel wish list. I'd heard all about "the lake that's almost an ocean" and the fun that can be had visiting Ohio's offshore islands. This weekend, we finally decided to head north and see for ourselves. It was just the kind of weekend getaway that we love … [Read more...]

Summer of the pixie cut

Zoe's been wanting to get her hair cut short for a while now. She's had glorious long hair all her life - well, for as long she's had hair.  She went through a pretty adorable chubby, bald phase first. But her bald days are far behind us and she's had pretty stellar princess hair ever since. Sure, the tangles in the morning (and even evenings too, sometimes) were annoying. And we had many a mother/daughter battle over various hair accessories and styles. But for the most part, her hair was … [Read more...]

Little girl, big cast

The Friday evening of Memorial Day weekend, I drove home from work with visions of cookouts, time at the swimming pool and summer fun dancing through my head. Zoe had just graduated from preschool the evening before and we were still in a celebratory mood - I was thinking maybe we'd head out for ice cream after dinner. Little did I know that within one hour of arriving home, Zoe and I would be relaxing on our swing set, swinging together on a warm summer evening, when our world and summer would … [Read more...]

Welcome Hanna to Columbus

When Zoe was a wee babe, I loved Carter's clothes on her. As soon as she got old enough to make her girlie fashion preferences known, Hanna Andersson became my favorite go-to brand for the perfect combination of quality and comfort. So you can imagine my delight that our very own Easton Town Center in Columbus is now the proud home to the country's latest and greatest Hanna Andersson store! This weekend is the grand opening and I'm sure the place will be packed because there are some great … [Read more...]

Mermaid magic in Ohio

Long-time friends and readers know that my daughter Zoe and I are both fairly obsessed with mermaids. In fact, at last check, Zoe still says she's going to *be* a mermaid herself when she grows up. I do nothing to dissuade her from this notion. We're planning a visit soon to the legendary Weeki Wachee mermaids in Florida after Zoe fell in love with mermaid Taylor during the Weeki Wachi mermaids' visit to Newport Aquarium last fall. (Side note: this was such a successful event for the aquarium … [Read more...]

Disney on Ice for everyone

Full disclosure: our family will receive free tickets to Disney on Ice and we were also provided the tickets to give away here. This is made more awesome by the fact that we would have bought our own tickets and gone to see the show anyway! Read on for how you can win.  As I've shared before, Disney on Ice is one of our favorite things to do in February. But this year, with Zoe about to turn five, is the first time she's actually asked about Disney on Ice before I had the chance to … [Read more...]

Star-gazing at COSI’s new planetarium

Central Ohio families now have another reason to head to COSI for fun and learning: as of winter 2014-2015, COSI boasts the largest planetarium in Ohio. Zoe and I got to experience the planetarium this week and had a wonderful time learning about the sun, moon and stars. At just $4 per person for members ($5 per person for non-members), the planetarium show is a great way to round out your day of fun at COSI. Zoe and I took in the "One World, One Sky: Big Bird's Adventure" show, aimed at the … [Read more...]

And be sure to visit last year's list because all of those family fun recommendations are still just as awesome. January – Go swimming … [Read more...]
