I am Wonder Woman

The new Wonder Woman movie that came out this summer was amazing for so many reasons - not the least of which is that it reminded me how much I loved the original Wonder Woman TV show as a kid. Playing as Wonder Woman as a little girl always made me feel so empowered and strong! Here, you can see little me rocking the awesome, custom, hand-made Wonder Woman outfit my mom made for me back in the '70s. Even today, during and after my workouts at Rock N Shock, I feel the same way - super … [Read more...]

Joining club “side hustle”

Last week, I heard an offer I couldn't refuse and signed on as a Stella & Dot independent stylist. I wasn't looking for another job - I already have two, thanks. I also wasn't necessarily looking for more money, although of course that is always nice to have. I'll be completely, totally honest: I did it for the goodies. I absolutely LOVE Stella & Dot jewelry, scarves and bags. I have been hooked on their quality, design and versatility ever since I first tried them - and being a … [Read more...]

Top 3 Columbus GNOs

GNO. Girls Night Out. Rarely have three little letters or words come to mean so much to me. Between work, being a mom and wife, and just the never-ending juggle of every day life, sometimes you need to let your hair down with your friends. GNO for me means fun, laughter, a little more makeup than usual and being carefree and silly for a night. We all need more of that in our lives! GNOs are not as frequent for me as I'd like; I think ideal would be once a month or at least every other month. I … [Read more...]

Taming the holiday chaos

This blog post originally appeared on the Easton MomEscape site. Full disclosure: I serve on the MomE Mavens panel and I adore Easton Town Center! But you probably knew that already. Women and moms everywhere are starting to feel the urgent pull of "getting it all done" before the holidays. It's a time-honored tradition to stress into a frazzled mess at this time of year! We'd like to help with some ideas to tame the chaos. We polled the Easton MomE Mavens - a group of fantastic moms and … [Read more...]

Summer fun Wednesdays

What mom doesn't wish she could be in two places at once?! I am fortunate to have a meaningful, interesting job that I love. I am happy to be a working mom most of the time. I know there are benefits to Zoe being in daycare, especially since she's an only child. And I certainly don't have the fortitude to stay at home with her full-time! But oh, sometimes I mourn the loss of my Wednesdays off with her. Working part-time, while it had its challenges, was pretty much living the dream. Our … [Read more...]

She’s moving out already?!

It seems like just yesterday our little girl was turning three, and now... she's moving out. I just don't know that I'm ready! Okay, okay - she's just moving across the hall into her big girl bed in her own room. She won't be sleeping snuggled in between E and I anymore, like a baby bird in a nest, as she has since she was a tiny infant. And believe me, I'm ready for it - we all are. But it's still hard! There are so many transitions going on right now. 2014 is a really big year for Zoe … [Read more...]

The truth about nursing for years

I'm tired of nursing. 2014 is the year of the Great Wean for us. One way or another, it will all be over soon. I'm hoping it will be on her terms, and we're doing everything we can to make that happen. I have no regrets. Not many babies nurse as long as Zoe has. I say that not to brag, but because it's a fact. According to the latest CDC Breastfeeding Report Card: 77% of American babies start out breastfeeding 49% of those babies are breastfeeding at six months 27% are breastfeeding … [Read more...]

The year without travel

I love to travel. I crave adventure. It's in my blood - I grew up crisscrossing the Atlantic visiting my grandparents and other family members in the UK at least once each year until my 20s. I flew from JFK to Heathrow at the age of 12 as an unaccompanied minor. My childhood's family vacations consisted of sailing trips instead of road trips (and believe me, at the time I didn't appreciate that, but I definitely do now). You see, my parents are soulless gypsies who travel the world and … [Read more...]

Fitbit rocks for busy moms

I started 2013 the same way I started 2012 - with a new year's resolution to move more and fit in more exercise. Both Januaries found me with a bulky, old school pedometer strapped to my side, keeping track of steps manually in my datebook and striving (with limited success) to do better from week to week. In 2013, I hoped to keep it going longer than the two months it took me to fizzle out in 2012. It's hard to keep something going when it's not all that fun, even if you know you … [Read more...]
