Please stop judging parents

Dear Internet: STOP JUDGING PARENTS. That poor, heartbroken Nebraska family just had literally the most horrible and unexpected tragedy imaginable happen to them. AT DISNEY! Please stop second-guessing, judging and condemning them. This is Zoebelle at 18 months about to launch into the Seven Seas Lagoon. I put the camera down in time to grab her chubby little butt, but yes she did make it into the water. Anyone who can keep a toddler out of water on a hot day is either an octopus or has … [Read more...]

Disney on Ice for everyone

Full disclosure: our family will receive free tickets to Disney on Ice and we were also provided the tickets to give away here. This is made more awesome by the fact that we would have bought our own tickets and gone to see the show anyway! Read on for how you can win.  As I've shared before, Disney on Ice is one of our favorite things to do in February. But this year, with Zoe about to turn five, is the first time she's actually asked about Disney on Ice before I had the chance to … [Read more...]

Frozen fun in Columbus

Zoe and I got to experience a taste of Arendelle this weekend without ever leaving central Ohio. Since Frozen still seems to be a huge hit with the little ones even after close to a year's time, I figured I'd share our experiences here for your reading pleasure. It all started with a party invitation. We've been invited to not one but three Frozen-themed birthday parties this year, and this Sunday's fete in particular was quite the spectacular event. Hosted at the Glass Slipper in Powell, it … [Read more...]

The princess thing

I am neither a rabid fan nor determined detractor of the "princess thing" in little girls. I do find it interesting to see how Zoe has grown to enjoy the princess thing while at the same time remaining true to her own individual style. Right up until she was about two years old, Zoe did not have much interest in princesses. She was far more interested in animals - whether real, stuffed or cartoon. For her first two trips to Walt Disney World, at 13 months and then at about 23 months, she was … [Read more...]

Viva la customer service!

I've had several customer experiences recently that blew my mind, rocked my socks and made me VERY happy. I love to reward companies for being awesome, so here are my raves about not one but FOUR great recent customer service experiences. My Disney happy ending Have you ever left a Disney park without buying something you really liked, only to deeply and sorrowfully regret it later? Well, that was me for the past week - I had a massive case of the sads and "non-buyer's regret." You see, I … [Read more...]

Disney on Ice is back!

Are you like me - already sick of winter? For me, the novelty and beauty of snow and ice wears off right around December 26. Then, I have to find fun things to look forward to and get excited about in order to make it through the next three months of cold, gray weather. One of our most anticipated winter activities is taking Zoe to see Disney on Ice. We went last February for the first time and she absolutely LOVED it. Of course, we did the full-on dressing like a princess thing - as do about … [Read more...]

Friday Favorites: fun kid stuff we love

Once upon a time, I had a little weekly blog series called Friday Favorites, which then morphed into my “5 thankful things” this past November. Now, it's back to being Friday Favorites again. Enjoy! This week I'm all about fun stuff for kids that is also fun for adults. Ready, set, go: 1. KidzBop. If you're not familiar with the pop cultural phenomenon known as KidzBop, then you probably don't have a kid between the ages of 5 - 12. Basically, this is a group of kids singing "clean" … [Read more...]

Why we love Sofia the First

Zoe and I were relative latecomers to the phenomenal kids TV show that is Disney Junior's Sofia the First. I'm an old school Disney Princess fan and didn't like the idea of some new upstart joining their hallowed ranks. Zoe, on the other hand, just didn't seem to fancy the show much when we first stumbled upon it - she was more into Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Jake and the Never Land Pirates, and the Backyardigans. But, sometime recently, all that changed. First, Zoe caught the princess bug … [Read more...]

See Disney on Ice for free

I am a huge fan of all things Disney and so far Zoe is too, so when I heard Disney on Ice was coming to Columbus, I knew it would be a perfect mommy and daughter date. Their latest show, Treasure Trove, is a medley of all our favorite Disney friends (Mickey, Minnie and the gang) plus favorite princesses from over 50 years as well as other beloved movie characters. Now, I'm happy to share you too can go see Disney on Ice's Treasure Trove show - completely for free - in one of two awesome … [Read more...]

Animals over princesses

Zoe showed signs very early on that she’s a huge animal lover. Even as a tiny infant, she always preferred stuffed animals over dolls. If presented with a human friend and a kitten at the same time, she would always go to the kitten. She can be a bit stingy with kisses and hugs at times for the people in her life, but will shower affection and love on our puppy or any other random, friendly dog she meets. This is never more evident than during family trips to Disney. Zoe will step over a … [Read more...]
