Summer fun Wednesdays

What mom doesn't wish she could be in two places at once?! I am fortunate to have a meaningful, interesting job that I love. I am happy to be a working mom most of the time. I know there are benefits to Zoe being in daycare, especially since she's an only child. And I certainly don't have the fortitude to stay at home with her full-time! But oh, sometimes I mourn the loss of my Wednesdays off with her. Working part-time, while it had its challenges, was pretty much living the dream. Our … [Read more...]

Friday favorites: lips, hips and dust

Welcome to my on-again, off-again Friday Favorites series. If you like this post, check out the others that came before! It's Friday again. Can I get an amen?! Today, I have a collection of fun, healthy stuff to share. All they have in common is the faintest thread of girliness, fitness and health - plus one wild card thrown in for fun. Enjoy! 1. Revlon lip balm pencils. I first picked up one of these at Ulta and fell in love with it - then grabbed a couple of others at a local drug … [Read more...]

First-time fun at Build-A-Bear

Disclaimer: Zoe and I were given an incredible opportunity recently to visit and experience the new Build-A-Bear Workshop at Easton Town Center in Columbus, Ohio. We built a wonderful, all bells-and-whistles-included bear in exchange for this post. Thank you again to the beary kind and generous folks at Build-A-Bear! Our poor little girl had a rough week recently. It started with a bad fever and sore throat, then the infection spread to Zoe's ear leaving her in huge amounts of pain. Then, … [Read more...]

The best gifts for kids 3+

Over the past three and a half years, we've both bought and received many gifts for Zoe. I've come to realize that the absolute best toys always have to do with building and creating. This is not just some crazy builder phase we happen to be in right now - this is time-tested and proven. Old building toys she's had for years are her absolute favorites - and new toys are instantly beloved as long as they have something to do with building, creating or inventing. This kid is definitely heading … [Read more...]

Top 10 reasons to “ride all day” at the zoo

A trip to the zoo with baby or even young toddler Zoe meant an hour or two at most of visiting the animals. Oh, how times have changed. Now, a trip to the zoo can be an almost all day endeavor and includes visiting animals, watching the animal show, petting the stingrays and and - if she's very lucky - going on some of her favorite rides. This week, for the first time, I bought us both the "Zoo it all" Ride All Day wrist bands ($9.99 each) so we could do all the rides. We had an absolute … [Read more...]

Dinosaur Island: a must-do at the zoo

Zoe and I ventured out to Dinosaur Island at the Columbus Zoo this week and absolutely loved the experience. We will definitely be returning for another visit or two before summer's over! If you're a regular at the Columbus Zoo, you know the Islands boat ride, way up at the top of the zoo in the Australia and the Islands section, is a longtime hidden gem. I'm always amazed by how many people don't even know about the little boat ride at the zoo! Well, not for long. This quaint little … [Read more...]

3 magic words for toddler parents

Fellow parents, do you want to know three little words that can guarantee your toddler will nap for hours like an angel? What if I told you those three magic words may also result in your normally picky eater wolfing through an entire plate of food before passing out into said wonderful nap? Those three little magical words are "Toddler Open Play." Anytime you see those words, head straight over and pay whatever the cover charge is. It'll be well worth it, trust me.* Yesterday, Zoe and I … [Read more...]

New summer fun in Columbus

There's so much to do in Columbus during summertime - awesome splash pads, fairs and festivals, pools and parks to explore. But this year, we have two great new additions that will especially please the little ones. Stingray Bay at the Columbus Zoo is awesome! I can't believe I haven't heard more buzz about this fabulous new addition to an already stellar zoo. We've visited stingray touch tanks at places like Long Beach, CA's Aquarium of the Pacific and the world-class Monterey Bay … [Read more...]

COSI is big fun for little ones

Did you know Columbus is home to the #1 children's science center in the country according to Parents magazine? On Saturday, Zoe and I were lucky to be invited to a wonderful event for parent bloggers and kids at COSI. Zoe got to spend time exploring littlekidspace, and then we attended a Workshop Sampler that was like a "best of COSI" smorgasborg of fun. Soon after Zoe was born I learned about the toddler haven that is littlekidspace: an entire area dedicated to the four and under set. … [Read more...]

Food, travel and fun in Ohio

Before beginning my very own mom blog here, I wrote about family fun on my client’s blog, Discovering Ohio. It’s a great resource for anyone who lives, works or plays in the great state of Ohio, as it’s full of fun things to do, visit and see year-round. Here are my posts from  Discovering Ohio this past year:  November Family Fun at the Zoo - If you only visit the zoo during summer months, you’re in for a treat. Here’s my rundown on why November is one of the best months to do … [Read more...]
