What’s bugging me? LICE.

If you're dealing with lice for the first time, like I had to recently, let me stop right here and say "Go call Lice Doctors right now!" The next paragraph is going to sound like a commercial, but I assure you they are not paying me a cent - rather, I just paid them a bundle. When you get the dreaded news (or find the dreaded creepy-crawlies), the Lice Doctors technician comes to your house, treats all family members and basically "cures" you of lice on the spot. Sure, there are follow-up … [Read more...]

What 100% means to me

At RNS, I am working out harder and more intensely than I EVER have before, putting in way more effort and truly giving it my all like I never have with other personal trainers at past gyms. During every workout at Rock N Shock Fitness, my goal is 100%. This isn't just words. This is what Rock N Shock means to me: 100% effort. Giving it my absolute all. Putting in everything I've got and then a little bit more. But you don't have to take my word for it that I'm working this hard: there's … [Read more...]

Workouts you’ll feel for days

This week, I set foot in the Rock N Shock Fitness gym to train with Master Breaker Danielle for the first time. This wasn't for an actual workout class, but rather my own personal, individual training session to try out for the classes. I was so excited to work out at RNS at last - but also nervous at the idea of a "try-out" or audition. Danielle devised the try-out system in order to know exactly where each client comes in, including their fitness level, ability and willingness to push … [Read more...]

My life is about to change

RockNShock post 1

Friends and longtime readers know that I've struggled with my weight, nutrition and fitness program for years. And when I say "struggled," what I really mean is that I love to work out and focus on fitness, but I'm never willing to stop eating carbs and sweets long enough to actually lose weight, get healthy and be fit. If we're being honest. Well, all that nonsense is about to change and my #Fitin2016 journey is about to get REAL up in here. I am thrilled to share that I've been selected by … [Read more...]

My March #fitin2016 update

TL; dr version: this is an update on my continuing mission to get super fit in 2016. And now for anyone who cares to read the long version... It's been two months now of healthier eating habits, tracking my food intake on MyFitnessPal, aiming for 10K steps a day with FitBit and working out almost every day. I got 25 solid workouts in during the month of February, beating my January record. I plan to do even more workouts in March. I started the Couch to 5K running program last month … [Read more...]

I’m on a mission to get super fit in 2016

If you follow me on Instagram, you've seen my post-workout #Fitin2016 selfies all through January. Bottom line, this is the year I get back to fit. Now that I've stuck with it daily for one whole month, I'm ready to share it here. This January, I embarked on a journey of much healthier eating habits, tracking my food intake religiously on MyFitnessPal, aiming for 10K steps a day with FitBit and working out more days than not (at 5 am on weekdays). I conquered the rigorous #21dayfix workout … [Read more...]

The truth about getting older

This post is part of my Mommy Mythbusting series. Today, I'm sharing some personal reality checks about being a woman in my 40s. Scary, I know! I won't feel bad if you choose to skip this one. I've written before about the fact that this blog is partially intended as a memoir of sorts for Zoe to look back on, hopefully fondly, and see how very loved she was. And to remember what a wacky but lovable character her mom was. As such, I feel it is my duty to speak the truth about getting older … [Read more...]

Everything matters at NCH

This Sunday, June 10, from 11 am to 4 pm, you and all our central Ohio neighbors have the opportunity to visit and tour the new Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus - one of the top pediatric healthcare institutions in the country. I highly recommend that you pack up the kids and make a morning or afternoon of it. I got to tour as part of a special preview for bloggers last Saturday, and I can't rave about it enough. This place is THAT amazing. Here are my top ten reasons why you and … [Read more...]

Brush your baby’s teeth!

Like many other moms, I read with horror the recent article in The New York Times about toddlers undergoing general anesthesia for dental work due, in many cases, to neglectful parents. It seems some didn’t realize they should brush their little ones’ teeth for them, while others found it too challenging. I could never be those parents, I thought. I brushed Zoe’s teeth… err, well, I did sometimes. But guess what? Despite my best intentions – avoiding sweets until she was two and … [Read more...]
