Top family fun activities for 2015

Last year I created a family fun list for 2014 with my most-recommended kid-friendly activities in Columbus for every month of the year. Now, I'm doing it again and trying hard not to have any repeat activities. Without further ado, here are the most awesome kid-friendly activities in central Ohio so you can plan your family fun bucket lists for 2015! And be sure to visit last year's list because all of those family fun recommendations are still just as awesome. January – Go swimming … [Read more...]

Staying connected as babies become kids

Each year of Zoe's life thus far has seemed like the BIGGEST year yet, with the MOST dramatic changes for her. From infant to sitting-up baby to crawling maniac to toddler, then from babbler to nonstop talker, and on up to almost-reading preschooler. Now she's evolving before our eyes from preschooler to a school-ager who can READ, and I can't help wondering when I'll stop feeling this amazed and blown away by it all. I love this mom's take on the phenomenon of watching our children grow and … [Read more...]

Summer fun Wednesdays

What mom doesn't wish she could be in two places at once?! I am fortunate to have a meaningful, interesting job that I love. I am happy to be a working mom most of the time. I know there are benefits to Zoe being in daycare, especially since she's an only child. And I certainly don't have the fortitude to stay at home with her full-time! But oh, sometimes I mourn the loss of my Wednesdays off with her. Working part-time, while it had its challenges, was pretty much living the dream. Our … [Read more...]

A purple and yellow Mother’s Day

When Zoe came home from school with faintly purple-stained palms a week or so ago, I smiled knowingly and inquired, "Oh, did you do handprint art in school today?" I was sure it was another awesome, Pinterest-inspired Mother's Day art gift. Her teachers knock them out of the ballpark each year, and I treasure each and every one. "Yep Mommy, I made you a purple flower, your favorite!" Zoe proudly replied. Then more recently, thanks to a sneak preview from another school mom on Facebook, I … [Read more...]

The wonderful Wonder Room

As you may have noticed by now, if you've been reading this blog for any length of time, I'm a what you might call a bit of a raver.  I'm prone to superlatives... I'm a gusher. I am full of love and enthusiasm and passion, and it splurts out in my writing. It explodes out in my conversations. It splooshes out in my parenting. Being this incredibly positive is a good thing, 99% of the time, most would agree. Except that when I REALLY want to rave about something - when I want to give … [Read more...]

A new freezer favorite: Mommade Foods

Disclaimer: I was generously provided samples from MomMade Foods prior to writing this post. That said, my opinions are my own and I happily spent my own money on MomMade Foods as well! Recently, Zoe and I got to attend a blogger event on behalf of Mommade Foods. We were able to meet mom and founder Heather Stouffer, learn all about her nutrition philosophy and best of all taste many of her delicious, healthy foods. Instantly, I was hooked! And that's a good thing, because I am ALWAYS on the … [Read more...]

The best gifts for kids 3+

Over the past three and a half years, we've both bought and received many gifts for Zoe. I've come to realize that the absolute best toys always have to do with building and creating. This is not just some crazy builder phase we happen to be in right now - this is time-tested and proven. Old building toys she's had for years are her absolute favorites - and new toys are instantly beloved as long as they have something to do with building, creating or inventing. This kid is definitely heading … [Read more...]

The butterfly experiment

This summer, I did something I never thought I'd do: I invited five live, wiggly insects into my house, cared for them, and treated them like treasured members of the family. Somewhere in another life, the old, pre-kid me was screaming in horror the entire time. The things we do for our little ones! But in all seriousness, the butterfly experiment - having caterpillars arrive on the doorstep and nurturing them as they turn into chrysalids and then ultimately hatch as newborn butterflies - … [Read more...]

Summer of the pool

For us, 2013 will always be the summer of the pool. The first summer that Zoe had unfettered access to a fabulous pool on pretty much all our days off together. The summer that she taught herself to swim at the age of three by watching older kids, and worked so hard at it that by the end of the summer, on the very last day the pool was open, she earned the right to climb the ladder to the diving board, walk out along its high platform, and jump off into the VERY deep end of the pool. But this … [Read more...]
