A triumphant return to RNS!

Partner workouts at RNS!

I'm delighted to report that I'm back at 100% with my workouts at Rock N Shock and I feel great. it's almost like my knee surgery never happened! Actually, I've been working so hard this month that Master Breaker Danielle joked I should have surgery more often - she said she's never seen me work so hard! She asked me when I'm scheduling my next one. All joking aside, I was a bit anxious about going back to RNS and I am SO HAPPY that everything is going well, I'm back at full steam with my … [Read more...]

Get back in your body!

Body Positive in 2017

How much time do you spend in your body - really IN your body? Working out, running, doing yoga or doing something else physical that gets you out of your head and truly into your physical self? If you're a mom, my guess is that you don't spend too much time focused on your own body, because you're probably spending most of your time focused on other little bodies. I know this is true for me. I recently had to take six weeks off from working out due to knee surgery and recovery - after a … [Read more...]

Cleared to work out!

Rock N Shock, here I come!

Guess who has a big smile on her face and just got medically cleared to return to the gym? This girl!! Rock N Shock Fitness, here I come! It's been a long recovery from my knee surgery on 2/27. I mean it hasn't all been bad - there was a week at Beaches Turks and Caicos that was pretty amazing. More on that in its own post soon! But not all of it was fun - there was pain and stress and way too much eating bad stuff. I complained about it over on the RNS blog so I won't go into it too much … [Read more...]

All hail non-scale victories

Three months into my RNS journey. Feeling GREAT!

There are so many ways to measure success when one is on a fitness and health program. My ultimate goal is weight loss, so seeing smaller numbers on the scale is important. But, unfortunately that needle isn't easy to move now that I'm in my mid 40s! Fortunately, there are other goals and metrics that matter, too. In this post, I'll focus on non-scale victories or NSVs. For starters, I've lost 10 inches since joining Rock N Shock Fitness and starting this latest round of my fitness journey. TEN … [Read more...]

An unforeseen obstacle

This knee injury can't hold me back!

When I started my intensive workout program at Rock N Shock Fitness and pledged to get my eating back on a healthier track, I figured changing my eating habits would be the hardest part. I've never had issues with intense workouts before - I figured I'd be able to handle the classes at RNS just fine. And I have thrived in the intense gym environment - and risen to Master Breaker's challenges, for the most part! However, I've run into a stumbling block I never could have predicted: somehow, … [Read more...]

My Rock N Shock Fitness timeline

My workout crew at RNS!

I'm going to be totally up front - this blog post is mainly for me. I am obsessive about documenting milestones and progress, especially in my fitness program - so I'm curious to track how many workouts I've done at Rock N Shock Fitness (I've committed to doing three per week), how many times I've blogged about RNS (I've promised to do it weekly) and how long it takes me to see results! So, without further ado, here's my timeline thus far at Rock N Shock (and I may come back and update this … [Read more...]

This just got real.

Yummy delicious salad for lunch again!

Why is it that I can drag myself out of bed at 4 am, drive on dark (even snowy or icy) roads to get to Rock N Shock Fitness, and then hustle, sweat and pant through a super-tough, high-intensity workout that would kill a mere mortal - yet I still can't get my eating under control?! Changing our eating - especially giving up things we love - has to be one of the hardest addictions to master. And it IS an addiction. But not to worry. I sat down with Master Breaker Danielle this … [Read more...]

5 things I’m excited about in 2017

2017 focus areas

I try not to do the stereotypical "New Year's Resolution" thing, as so often those don't go anywhere. Instead, I always end a year by reflecting back on the highs and lows, documenting the things I want to remember, and setting a few focus areas or intentions for the new year. So, without further ado, here are 5 things I'm excited about in 2017! 1. My job. Yes, as a working mom I have multiple jobs - but I don't often talk about my 9 to 5 here. In fact, in some ways that job gets short shrift … [Read more...]
