It’s time once again to go out and vote to support and better our community and schools.
Once upon a time, I used to only vote in presidential elections. In recent years, however, it has become very important to me to vote in every single election and be as informed as possible about issues and candidates.
Voters in Lewis Center, Powell and the other towns within Olentangy Local School District will soon have the opportunity to vote for Olentangy Board of Education candidates. I urge you to get out and vote this year.
There are five school board candidates on the ballot, but two should be removed from consideration immediately because they belong to an extremist hate group known as Moms for Liberty. I’m not going to mention those two candidates by name here. Clearly, anyone belonging to an extremist organization that is focused on an anti-student inclusion agenda does not belong in our beloved school district.
Instead, I am happy to share information about the other three Olentangy school board candidates, each of whom are qualified, fair-minded and experienced. Two are incumbents who are currently doing a great job and the third will make a terrific addition to the Olentangy Schools board and leadership.
In addition, all three of the candidates below have the powerful public endorsement of Julie Wagner Feasel, former OLSD school board president, who is likely the best school board member and leader Olentangy Schools has ever known.
Here are the three OLSD school board candidates to vote for this fall:
- Lizett Shreiber is a working mom from the Olentangy district with four children in or heading to the schools. She is very active in her kids’ schools, chairs the policy committee for OLSD and serves on the PTO board for Arrowhead Elementary. Also, did I mention that Lizett is also a local attorney with experience as both a prosecutor and defense attorney? Her extensive experience with state and federal law, along with her service on the policy committee, provides the experience needed to be an impactful school board member.
- Kevin O’Brien is an incumbent school board member for OLSD. He has served on the board for 8 years and, as a CPA and chief financial officer by trade, has provided financial acumen during that time. Kevin has been one of the longest-serving board members in the history of the district. According to the former OLSD superintendant, Kevin’s fiscal leadership has saved the community millions of dollars during his tenure. We’re all about saving money, so let’s keep Kevin on the board.
- Libby Wallick is a professional educator who was appointed to the school board last year and is running for election to keep her spot. She is a mom of three children and works for the University of Cincinnati. She lives in Powell and is active in the community as a volunteer. She, too, has the vote of former superintendent Mark Raiff, who described her as “a passionate educator with extensive knowledge of teaching and learning practices, educational administration and instructional technology.” It makes sense to have a former K-12 educator on the board, so let’s keep Libby.
There you have it – three educated, experienced and effective leaders for Olentangy school board.
Please give them your vote to help ensure our awesome schools stay at this level of excellence or get even better in the years to come!
And remember – you don’t have to take my word for it. Julie said it first.
Thanks for the warnings: “two [school board candidates] should be removed from consideration immediately because they belong to an extremist hate group known as Moms for Liberty.” MFL disingenuously claims to be for parental rights when the only thing they really stands for is their narrow understanding of education as it was in the 1950s. Among other things, they are for censorship of school reading materials and are linked with antisemitism and recruit members by appealing to homo and transphobia.
Agreed – I wish more people knew that MFL is literally categorized and tracked as an extremist hate group!
