Do you remember me writing about my extremely talented local musician friends, the family behind The Wise Channel?
They have a YouTube channel and make catchy, vibrant and wholesome music together as a family of four, often pulling in other Grammy-winning and -nominated artists and musicians for collaboration.
Their last big album launch was all about math – not usually one of my favorite topics, but I loved it.
This time, they’ve released an album that is totally my jam. It’s all about feelings and mental health!
The Wises’ new album, All the Feels, is already making waves and garnering press coverage. And I’m not surprised. These songs, and the theme of emotions, are just so good!
Each song is a tribute to a particular emotion or an overall validation of all our emotions and our mental health. It all reminds me a little bit of Pixar’s Inside Out – and the Wises’ timing was perfect because their album came out right after the launch of Inside Out 2, while emotions and mental health were still on everyone’s minds.
Emotions and mental health are always on my mind and I so appreciate it when they show up in music, entertainment programming and national conversations like the Olympics. That’s how we all work together to break down the stigma surrounding mental health issues!
Here are some of my favorite songs from All the Feels, including links to each on Spotify:
- There’s More to Me – this is such a great reminder for kids AND adults that there’s more to us than our feelings. Feelings are temporary – no matter how strong they might feel in the moment, they will pass. There’s more to us than our feelings!
- I’ve Got that Joy – upbeat and poppy, this one features guest vocalist Kymberly Stewart but my favorite part is when the Wise sons, Ceylon V and Caleb, get to show off their rapping skills. Nicely done!
- Sadness – this song actually made me cry the first time I heard it! Ashley’s voice is just beautiful and so are the family harmonies; plus, the lyrics are so thoughtful and poignant. I happen to love sad songs and this is a new favorite for sure – plus it’s a great reminder that sadness will not last forever.
- Get Out My Bubble – if you’ve ever had one of those days where you just need people to leave you alone, this is the song for you. Imagine playing this instead of exploding in anger at a coworker or family member. Love the rhythms here and the star-studded cast of guest artists and musicians!
- Mad – I love this one because the rock-edged music matches the emotion so perfectly. It also feels like the Wise sons got to really do their thing here and I can’t wait to see the music video!
- Como Te Sientes – this song had me at Latin rhythms and learning how to talk about feelings in Spanish! We should all ask each other “How are you feeling?” and now I can do that en espanol as well.
- Upendo – I had to google this one; Upendo is “love” in Swahili and I love the African rhythms here. I dare you to listen to this and not dance!
- Fear – “I’m strong, I’m brave, even when I’m afraid. My fear will not stop me!” These are some of my favorite lyrics on the whole album. All kids deserve to hear and internalize this message!
- Just Being Me – I can totally envision hearing this one on the radio. It is so catchy – and can we talk about Dad Ceylon’s vocal range? My goodness! The talent in this family never ceases to blow my mind!
Okay, so pretty much every song on All My Feels is my favorite. Don’t take my word for it – put it on next time you’re in your car or cleaning the house and you’ll see what I mean.
The Wises are a great example of truly good people doing good things. As if putting out this wonderful album wasn’t enough, they are even donating some of the proceeds from All My Feels music videos to the Kids Mental Health Foundation!
Give All My Feels a listen and then go back and check out the other Wise Channel releases on YouTube, Spotify or wherever you stream music. I just love knowing this incredibly talented local family and can’t wait to see and hear what they do next!
