I’m predicting it now – we’ll be glued to the boob tube multiple times in 2025.
(Did I just age myself with that goofy Gen X reference to the TV set?!)
I love good television and the coming year is looking to have some real standouts in the streaming arena. Are you ready for a look ahead at the shows I’m most excited to watch in 2025?
The final season of Stranger Things. Although we’ve waited what feels like an eternity for season five of this beloved 80s-obsessed show, the Duffer brothers have promised a final series like no other with actual feature film-length episodes. Although we don’t know exactly when this is coming, some have said that we’ll have to wait until fall. Still, they are adding Linda Hamilton to the cast; she was known for kicking major bad guy ass in the 80s and early 90s, so I’m sure this means the good guys will win in the end!
The final season of The Handmaid’s Tale. As grim and grueling as this show can be, I’ve loved it since first reading the book and certainly can’t stop watching now. Will June get Hannah back? Will she and Nick be reunited for good? What will happen to Serena? I have so many questions, and I’m ready to see it end. June really gets on my nerves and I haven’t found her likeable in some time, but I still want peace and an end to Gilead’s christo-fascist ways. The fact that this show mirrors real life makes it even more horrifying. Please let the good guys win.
Season two of 1923. This has taken Taylor Sheridan forever, so it better be good! Z and I loved the first season of 1923 (not quite as much as we adored its precursor, 1883) and we’re excited to see the reunion of Spencer and Alex, a satisfying resolution to the Native American storyline AND the return of the prodigal son (Spencer) to the Dutton ranch in Montana. The return of this show is especially timely since the original Yellowstone series has finally come to a wrenching end. I can’t stop seeing that gorgeous land and those views; I’m going to need another vacation out west soon!
Dexter: Resurrection. Yes, they’re bringing him back again – but we love Michael C. Hall so much that we don’t even care how implausible it is that he survived being shot by his son, Hamilton. We just want more of the two of them together! I don’t know what I love more about this – the fact that we get more Dexter, or that the showrunners actually listen to fans when we squawk about how the series should never have ended. Not once but TWICE this show has ended, then ultimately come back for more. Dexter forever, I say! This is one we’ll watch as a family which makes it even more enjoyable.
The final season of The Summer I Turned Pretty. Look, I know this is teen or young adult fare at best, but I don’t care – at this point, I’m fully committed. I’m so love with these characters, the perfect casting, the Taylor Swift-heavy soundtrack, the gorgeous NC beach setting and arguing over which handsome brother Belly should end up with. Do I already know how it ends, having read all the books? Yes. Am I still biting my nails waiting for the final installment of this lovely, sweet and magical TV series? Also yes. It centers on summer and young love – if you can’t get excited about that, then what is wrong with you?!
That’s my list of what I’m excited to watch in the coming year. Did I miss any of your favorites? I’m always up for chatting about TV and movies so hit me up in the comments below or over on Facebook or Instagram!
