I’m going to tell you about my five favorite things for summer. But first, a caveat.
This is not a blog that often encourages you to buy things. I’m trying to cut down on my own consumerism, so I am certainly not in the market to encourage yours.
That said, I love sharing things I love that I think others will love, too. So, it’s a delicate balancing act. I’m recommending these products, but I don’t have affiliate links or any other kickbacks happening; there’s no incentive to me whatsoever. I just like what I like, and I like to share!
Currently, it’s extremely hot in central Ohio, and summer is in full swing. We’ve already spent a day out on Alum Creek Lake bombing around in a little jet boat with our teenager hanging onto a tube for dear life 20 feet behind us. And, I’ve already heard “Mom, I’m bored” more than a few times.
So, here are five things that are getting me through summer with a smile on my face!
1. Oats Overnight – A friend sent me a whole box of Oats Overnight flavors to try when she learned our family has gone gluten-free. Oats Overnight can be prepared cold or hot and are a new way to eat or drink high-protein, nutritious oatmeal shakes or bowls. They are absolutely delicious and lower in sugar than many breakfast options. I’ve always enjoyed hot oatmeal during the winter, but I had never even considered eating cold oatmeal before – and these flavors are enticing and fill me up for hours. I’m a huge fan! I just placed my first order, and you can get a $20 discount off your first order with my link above.
2. My old, trusty Lands End rashguard – I don’t have a link to the exact one I wear, because I bought mine years ago, but this one looks pretty close. I have two and they have held up so well and still look brand new. I never go out in the sun, go swimming or put on a swimsuit without having one of these on as well. This rashguard is equivalent to SPF 50 and protects both my tattoos and skin from sun damage. I love how these rashguards fit like a regular shirt, not super skintight. I also like how they can double as a regular top and go right from hopping around town to swimming at the pool. They are comfortable, functional and perfect. I wouldn’t dream of going on a vacation, a boat or to the beach without this summer wardrobe staple!
3. Kopari golden sunglaze spf 50 sheer body mist. This is a recent discovery. I’m in love with the fragrance, the subtle shimmer and the overall luxurous feel of this product. In early summer, I was bombarded by in-feed ads on Facebook and Instagram until I weakened, clicked and purchased. However, I’m super happy with the product and bought a bottle for our teen daughter as well. Sun protection is an essential and this brand makes it feel sexy and fun – like something you want to do, not something you have to do. I recommend this sunglaze mist for anyone with teens! You can purchase directly from the manufacturer, from Amazon or from Ulta.
4. These $19 white skinny jeans from Amazon. These are a recent purchase after I read an article saying everyone needs a pair of white jeans for summer. Yes, kind of like this article I’m writing now! I do think they’re pretty classic and the fit is amazing considering how inexpensive they were. I didn’t have a pair of white pants or jeans, and the price was right, so I “splurged” and got these $19 skinnies. I definitely recommend them if you’re looking for something like this to jazz up your summer outfit options. It’s kind of amazing how you can put on an old top and have it suddenly feel new with the simple addition of some white jeans. They’re a fun way to breathe new life into your existing summer wardrobe.
5. My Oofos flip-flops. Longtime readers know I’ve been obsessed with Oofos comfort/recovery footwear for a few years now. These are my first Oofoos sandals and it’s safe to say the obsession continues. They are pricey but worth it – and if you can catch a sale, they are a lot more affordable. I bought my OOlala Limited Sandals in January in one of last summer’s colors, a neon orange that is no longer available. They do come in a super cute neon berry shade now. I can wear these flip-flops for miles. The best feeling in the world is taking off my running shoes and socks after a sweaty workout and putting these on instead – they make every step feel bouncy and painless. Oofos rock!
What products do you feel are an absolute necessity for summer? I’m always eager to hear your recommendations as well. And thanks again to my friend Gloria for recommending Oats Overnight – I’m eating some right now and loving each new flavor I try!
Happy summer, all.
