Five days of gratitude: day one

Have your Facebook feeds been taken over by the “five days of gratitude” meme? I’ve seen a few people do it, and I liked the thought behind it a lot. Then, I was nominated by my dear cousin Jo to post three things I’m grateful for each day for five days. I’ve decided to repeat the posts here for posterity, because I put a lot of time and thought into them so I want to keep them. Here goes with day one…

1. Our amazing neighborhood. We are surrounded by incredible people. With Zoe being an only child and her cousins being SO far away – just like mine were growing up – I am so happy she has BFF “neighbor friends” just a house or backyard away at all times. Once she starts school with them all, it will be even better. Nothing like an automatic posse of pals to go through life with.

2. My Fitness Pal. I had been struggling with my weight and eating habits for a long time, then finally buckled down and started using this free app every day. I’m on a 40 day streak and going strong! Not to say it’s always easy, but MFP does so much of the heavy lifting (so to speak. ha!) that it really is easier. Excited to end the year healthier, lighter and fitter than I started it.

3. Zoe’s growing independence. We practiced attachment parenting and natural term nursing / child led weaning, which meant Zoe and I were super closely attached (often literally) for the first three to four years of her life. Now she’s starting to get more and more independent and go off on her own – even had her first sleepover at a friend’s house this weekend. I’m so proud of her and happy we did things our way and in our own time. I love our bond and it thrills me to see her confidence and growing independence now, sprouting from such a wonderfully nurturing beginning.

More gratitude to come. In the meantime, what are you grateful for today? As always, I’d love to hear from you in the comments below.
