This week, I set foot in the Rock N Shock Fitness gym to train with Master Breaker Danielle for the first time. This wasn’t for an actual workout class, but rather my own personal, individual training session to try out for the classes.
I was so excited to work out at RNS at last – but also nervous at the idea of a “try-out” or audition.
Danielle devised the try-out system in order to know exactly where each client comes in, including their fitness level, ability and willingness to push themselves. Then she places the client in the class that will best meet their needs and abilities. It’s a great system, but I have to admit – somewhat nerve-wracking!
I went in with a great attitude ready to do my best. I’d had a good night’s sleep, eaten a small but healthy breakfast, and I was ready for anything. All I knew to expect was that it would be high intensity, timed intervals because H.I.T.F.I.T. (High Intensity Timed Functional Interval Training) is what RNS is known for. But I’ve been running all summer, I’ve done P90X3 and I’ve had a personal trainer before. I’m not afraid of a tough workout – I welcome it. How hard could it be, I thought?!
WOW. Let’s just say that my try-out with Master Breaker Danielle – which lasted less than 15 minutes – was the most intense workout I’ve ever had in my life. It was a combo of cardio and strength training totally focused on legs/lower body and designed to max me out, for sure. I feel like it went well, I had a great sweat going by the end and I was smiling from ear to ear. I loved it and can’t wait to go back for more beatings, I mean workouts!
But it showed me just how out of shape I am. Despite all my running and the fact that I thought my legs were relatively strong, I have literally been sore for DAYS. My try-out was Thursday. It is Saturday. I am STILL sore! But now I’m just normal sore – like what I’d feel after any really good workout or run.
For the first few days after my try-out at RNS, I was “legs made of razorblades and acid” sore. I was “can’t sleep, up all night trying to stretch and find a comfortable position” sore. I was “can barely go up and down stairs or use the toilet” sore. Oy. I was so sore!!!
But I love it. Give me more. I can’t wait to go back and get the same treatment on the rest of my bod. I am so excited to feel the burn and make these muscles work harder than they ever have! I know that over time, I won’t be so sore after the workouts and my body will rise to the occasion as I get stronger and more used to the high intensity of the workouts.
I realize now that despite all of my running and other workouts in the past, I have NEVER truly worked out at a high intensity. This might be why I haven’t seen the results I’ve wanted to see, huh!?
If you want the best, most intense workout of your life and to get into the best shape of your life, go see Master Breaker Danielle at Rock N Shock Fitness. I cannot wait to hit the gym again early Monday morning! This week I get onto my normal, three workouts a week routine (and sometimes four if I can fit in a fourth with my crazy schedule).
So tell me, what’s the hardest and most intense workout YOU have ever done? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below or over on Facebook!
