As a family that loves animal encounters, you’d think we would have experienced them all by now.
But even though we do several of these experiences each year, we keep finding new and amazing critter encounters right here in Ohio!
So far in 2024, we’ve already had a lot of fun with the Paws and Claws animals. Now, we’ve got a new farm fun adventure to share with you.
On Father’s Day of this year, our little fam drove up north to visit Majestic Meadows Alpacas in Medina, OH. We had a fantastic family outing and met so many amazing furry friends!
Majestic Meadows offers private, close-up critter encounters as well as self-guided walking tours of their farm. The price for the walk-through is extremely reasonable at just $12.50 per person plus $3.50 if you want to purchase a bag of feed. You can reserve a spot online or simply walk in and purchase your ticket in person.
We did the walking tour and met many animals up close, including petting and feeding many of them. These animals were alpacas including newborn babies, goats including newborn babies, kangaroos, giant rabbits, wallabies including an adorable baby still in the pouch, capybaras, an enormous friendly camel, donkeys, and I’m pretty sure I’m forgetting someone.
This place is huge! It’s really nicely laid out with lots of space and the animals have lovely enclosures. The alpacas are out grazing in a grassy field but there are also alpacas in other areas. Basically, the alpacas are everywhere – and they are much friendlier than the alpacas we’ve interacted with at other farms.
I fed almost my entire grain bag to the new mama alpaca pictured above. She was standing guard over her tiny newborn cria still bloody from her birth, which had happened mere hours earlier. I figured that mom deserved a healthy snack!
It was so fun to pet, feed and hold so many animals and baby critters. Our absolute favorite friend of the day was a tiny, newborn goat baby. She was so content to be held, hugged and even kissed by our animal-loving Z. We even took some adorable family photos with her! Her lovely mama goat stood by and watched and didn’t have an issue with us holding her baby; needless to say, she got all of Z’s remaining grain.
We also enjoyed visiting some very sleepy capybara. They were adorable and it would be fun to book a private capybara encounter to see them awake and interacting!
Last but not least, on our way out we visited the wallabies. There, we got to see a shy mama wallaby with a big white baby in her pouch. As we sat quietly in the grass and watched the pair, the joey ended up hopping out and exploring a bit while staying close to his mama. They were cuties!
If you’re looking for something fun to do as a family, we highly recommend a road trip up to Majestic Meadows. The farm is clean, well-run and stocked with many friendly, adorable animals to meet and feed. We can’t wait to go back again sometime.
