It’s time for an Ohio amusement park showdown.
When choosing a day at an Ohio theme park, do you head north and visit Cedar Point on beautiful Lake Erie, or do you head south and visit Cincinnati’s Kings Island?
This is a fairly common question here in Ohio, and most of us have a clear preference. Theme parks are an all-American pleasure during summertime, and we’re fortunate to have two truly epic parks to choose from.
Most agree that Kings Island and Cedar Point are both elite parks with a great visitor experience.
It would seem that Cedar Point skews slightly better in the rides and rollercoasters department – which, honestly, is pretty important. CP also has that incredible view of the lake and beach; it really feels like an island getaway.
Kings Island is rated as slightly better for families with small kids, as they have more rides for the younger set, better theming throughout and just a very pretty, well landscaped park. KI also has its nearby water park included with admission, whereas with Cedar Point, you have to pay extra if you want to go to the water park.
We visited both parks during the summer of 2019 and had great experiences. The lakefront, beachside vibe and views at CP probably put that park into first place for me, although it was more crowded for sure. KI gets points for being slightly less crowded and possibly a bit more efficient with their people-moving and line set-ups.
You honestly can’t go wrong with either park. If you’re all about the coasters and big rides, Cedar Point has a slight edge. If you’re wanting a better overall park experience with more shade and slightly shorter lines, you may want to opt for Kings Island.
We’ve found that both parks are even more fun when you add an overnight stay and have the luxury of two days to really do and see all that you want to do at both parks – and their respective water parks.
